About Tan
Latanjulla Tangie Smith known as Poetic Tan is a 32-year-old poet and future author. She is originally from a small town called Camden, AL. She began writing at the age of twelve. Her love for poetry deepened when she went through some tough experiences at the age of nineteen. Poetry became an emotional outlet for her. Some of her earlier titles are Bruised Not Broken, Love Is Pain /Pain Is Love, and Thoughts. Poetic Tan kept her poems hidden until a friend found her notes and encouraged her that she has a gift. She found courage to read her pieces to her family. Years later at the age of 27 she walks into a non-profit called Out Loud HSV in Huntsville, AL. She recited Outpouring, A Rose In Wilcox, and J-Motions for the first time. Poetic was later featured in an anthology Out Loud HSV Two Years In Review 2020 + 2021

Rooted in the places that shaped her and the experiences that changed her, her work explores love, loss, healing, identity, and the complicated journey of becoming. Each poem is an invitation to sit with what hurts, honor what has survived, and discover the freedom waiting on the other side of becoming whole.
